My Favorite Tip For Immediate Action

I know what it's like to be STUCK.

Analysis paralysis. Shiny object syndrome. No time.

These are all reasons that financial advisors leave their best ideas–the ones that would make their business great–on the back burner. There is just so much going on ALL the time in your business that you know you want to do some important things… but there always seems to be something more pressing that needs your attention.

Here’s a few common phrases I hear when I’m coaching Advisors:

“My website is garbage and I KNOW it needs to be updated… but I’ve been saying that for 3 years.”

“I’m finally making really good money and I know I need to put systems in place so I can maybe work a little smarter and not so hard… but finding the time to create the thing is next to impossible.”

Or, my personal favorite: “I blocked off an entire day to work on that… but I had to get a whole bunch of other stuff done and then I didn’t have enough time or mental capacity to work on it….”

(And for the record, that third one was me for a solid 6 years until I figured out a few tricks–but that’s for another article another time).

So when I start digging into, the problem tends to actually be one thing… Perfectionism, and this idea of everything needing to be perfectly done in order to introduce it to the world.

Two things to consider:

  1. Your first draft/trial of anything will need to be tweaked anyways.
  2. If it’s garbage now…what’s the harm in updating it to something a little better!?!?!

My favorite phrase is “Move forward messy and make it fancy later!”

For example: my website.

It’s not anything anywhere near what I want. I put off turning it back on when I re-launched The Efficient Advisor because I wanted to redo the whole dang thing. I obsessed over new Advisors coming to my site for the first time and it not totally representing what I want it to.

Instead, I made the decision to just move forward messy. I still obsess over it–that won’t change. BUT, I am SLOWLY updating it one page at a time. I’ve received dozens of messages from Advisors about watching the videos in the free video library, and, I’ve received notifications that over 200 of the free templates/worksheets/etc. have been downloaded. This just proves to me that even if it’s not perfect… It's still impactful.

So make the choice to move forward on something. 90% of your ideal is still 90% more than nothing!

Move forward messy and make it fancy later!
